LOCATIONS

Keen for some beautiful family photos but no idea where to have them taken? Here’s a little guide to some of my fave local spots

Home or a personal place

Many of my clients like to shoot in their home or at places special to them such as the place they got married, the place they grew up or at their local park or neighbourhood. I love the idea that when you look at you photos, it will bring back special memories for you and your family. I’d like to stress that you don’t need a perfect space for beautiful photos. It’s more about feeling at ease and being with the people you love.

Hyde Park

A nice and central location, Hyde Park is located in the city with lots of big beautiful trees and a lake, as well as seperate garden areas and a few sweet neighbourhood houses to offer some variety in location.

It’s important to bare in mind that this is a popular spot, particularly on weekends and sunny evenings, particularly if you’re feeling a little self conscious.

Blackwall Reach + Bicton Baths

Located in Bicton, Blackwall reach is a beautiful little spot near on the river. It offers bushland and river backdrops. As well as a little jetty, there is a sweet hidden cove which is lovely to shoot in when the tide allows access.

City Beach + Reabold Hill

City Beach offers beautiful grassy hills as well as gorgeous sunsets over the beach. This is not the main beach so offers some privacy from the busier part of the beach. However if you’d like to access the main beach a little further down, you can also shoot at the jetty, rocks and City Beach Surf Lifesaving Club.

It’s also very close to Reabold Hill if you’re looking for a second location to offer some variety to your shoot. This is a great option for those who might like their doggos to join in on the fun!

South Perth Forshore

The South Perth foreshore has access to the jetty for photos over the water and allows for images that include city views and and the river. It’s particularly beautiful as the sun is setting.

Heathcoate Reserve

Located between Heathcoate Reserve and the South of Perth Yacht Club is a stretch of land which leads to a secluded foreshore. Heathcoate also offers beautiful views with river and bushland backdrops.

Perth Hills

While it can require a little bit of trekking, the Perth Hills offer stunning outback scenery and golden light at sunset the provides a really beautiful background. It’s a great option for outdoorsy families.

Swan Valley

If you’re looking for golden grasses, this location might be the one for you. There’s an open field with a cleared pathway leading out towards a gorgeous big tree. We can get really gorgeous sunsets here as well as the chance for some shots by the river and the wild roses that grow at the opening of the paddock.

Something to keep in mind - when the grasses get quite long, the council mows them so it’s best to check in first.

Whereever you want!

These photos were taken in bathrooms, on the roof of a car, on a family farm, under a breakfast table and in the middle of the street. Okay, so perhaps we might not do a newborn shoot in the middle of the street, by my point is this: if you have an idea of where you might like to shoot but you think it sounds a little crazy, I’m here for it. Let’s chat, baby!
